It’s no longer enough for a musician to just record a single, EP or an album without investing in good visuals in form of a videos to accompany their product.

Videos are so critical nowadays because they market an artist. Players on the global showbiz scene don’t just look at the talent one has but also consider the character one exudes.

On that regard, below is a list of five songs, in no particular order that were big hits but could have gone bigger had they been buttressed with good videos.

1 NHEMA – ExQ ft Killer T

This song was a mega hit last year and even got ExQ to be nominated for the 2018 NAMA’s. ‘Nhema’ topped charts on radio for several weeks and was on heavy rotation at clubs and pubs – and still is even today. It was so big to the extent that its audio alone amassed over a million hits to date, 1.4 million hits to be specific on YouTube.

2 NDINI NDAMUBATA – Jah Prayzah

Though many got addicted to the track ‘Kutonga Kwaro’ off Jah Prayzah’s latest album because of the shenanigans that occurred in November last year, the biggest track off the album is actually ‘Ndini Ndamubata’. There was an outcry when the song won a NAMA award ahead of Soul Jah Love’s ‘Pamamonya Ipapo’ but we will not be getting into that debate. The truth of the matter is that the NAMA crew picked the right song off the album and had Jah followed up with a video it would have blown up big time. One Blessing Mtetwa with a mere 4000 subscribers loaded the song on his channel in October last year and it has 1.7 million hits to date.

3 LAZARU – Lynol, Winnie Khumalo & Busiswa

A rare combination which might not happen any time soon – Lazaru was a mega hit since its release in 2016 till mid-2017. Today when it is played at clubs, bars or whichever function, people immediately get into dance mode. Though of all the channels that have uploaded it only got a high of 444 000 hits on YouTube, the song could have gone bigger with a dope video.

4 FINHU FINHU – Winky D

Whilst Ngirozi remains an amazing track as it combines two great acts, a song that surely needs a video off Winky’s new album is Finhu Finhu. Since its release back on February 2, 2018 it has banked 335 000 hits on YouTube to date. That’s close to half of what the Ngirozi video has achieved in a month with a cool 620 000 hits.

5 GOTO – JAH PRAYZAH

Goto is one of the most controvertial tracks outta Zimbabwe in recent years. Some say the track causes people to connect with spirits, Kusvikirwa and some say it’s just a myth. The track is one of the crowds favourites at most of Jah’s shows but it has no video.
