Nonhle Goes Gaga Over Lady Gaga

{dropcap}W{/dropcap}ithout a shadow of a doubt, the biggest international music success story of 2009 was that of Lady Gaga whose music tore across the globe in record time, making her a pop icon on every continent- including ours. Now African fans of this eclectic and audacious artist can get an intimate look into the superstar’s music and life when she is interviewed by the beautiful Nonhle Thema on a very special edition of O Access to be screened next week.

Lady Gaga's song Poker Face was the 30th most popular song in Zimbabwe in 2009.

To be broadcast on Tuesday 19 January at 21:00, the 30-minute episode of Africa’s leading all access entertainment show sees host Nonhle Thema fly to South Korea to sit down with Lady Gaga hours before she took to the stage for another scintillating live show. In her inimitable way, Nonhle gets under the skin of the New York City-raised artist who has just been named as one of the live performers at the upcoming Grammy Awards (also being exclusively broadcast live on Channel O at 06:00am on Monday 1 February).

Viewers may be surprised to know that for Lady Gaga it’s “all about hard work and discipline” – and the chart topper lets Nonhle in on how hard she had to work to secure her first record deal and how she coped after being dropped by Def Jam.

Lady Gaga

What does gaga mean?

gaga (adj.) Completely absorbed, infatuated, crazy or excited.
E.g. They were gaga over Tuku's new album.

See the Zimbabwe Urban Dictionary for other great words to add to your vocabulary.

Lady Gaga also reveals the inspiration behind her name (clue: it has something to do with UK Electro-pop group Queen) and why she named her debut album The Fame (it’s not quite what fans may think).

What fans may find especially inspirational is just how hard Lady Gaga works on serving up the visual feasts that are her global chart-topping music videos. “I see no separation between the music and the visual,” she reveals to Nonhle. It’s fascinating stuff – made more so by the connection Lady Gaga feels to South Africa through the photographer who shot her first ever publicity shots for The Fame. O Access viewers also get a glimpse into the art of shopping and eating, South Korean-style in what is one of the fourth series’ most fascinating episodes!

Season 4 of O Access sees Nonhle travel across America and beyond to bring African viewers a unique and intimate viewpoint on some of the world’s biggest stars.

With Nonhle in the driving seat, the previous three seasons of O Access have been among Channel O’s top-rated shows and season 4 is showing every sign of becoming the most-watched ever. It runs from 17 November to 9 February with plenty of repeats for those who miss the first showing of each brilliant episode.

Adding to the world-class gloss on O Access is a brand new look and feel that underscores what everyone knows – and that is there’s only one place to be each Tuesday at 21:00: tuned into Channel O for O Access Season 4!

  • Channel O is available in Zimbabwe and across Africa on DStv channel 320.
