Spear Of Love Debuts at the Reps Theatre

Last Friday, I was accompanied by my good friend, the sublime actress, singer, dancer and fashionista, Collina Mvududu, to the premiere of a new “African traditional musical play” at the Reps Theatre. “Spear Of Love” is an entertaining and, in some places, hilarious combination of theatre, music and dance that tells the familiar story of forbidden love against the backdrop of tribal village life in a Zimbabwe that now seems like a distant memory. The tale is told with a loving and respectful nod to history and tradition.

Teens Wow Audience in Peterhouse’s Aïda

Aïda is one of the greatest tragedies in history; it is also a timeless love story that preaches the message of love triumphing over all odds, even death. Thursday night was the opening performance of the “Broadwaysation” of this tale, as presented by the Peterhouse Group of Schools, running this week only at Reps Theatre.

Movie Review: Madness, mayhem and music in Minions

Many are familiar with those little yellow characters that seem to inundate the profile pictures of so many users of Facebook, WhatsApp and other social networking entities. Now, fans of those supporting characters from the Despicable Me series of movies can rejoice in the knowledge that a movie has been released, specially starring three particular Minions named Bob, Kevin and Stuart.

Movie Review: Time Travelling Trial & Error With The New Terminator Genisys

As a fan of the original Terminator movie, and a fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s movies, I had to see the latest in the franchise out of curiosity more than anything else. Terminator Genisys makes references that only those who have seen the previous movies could understand. As with any umpteenth installment in a franchise, I went into it with mixed feelings.

Back To The Past With “Jurassic World”

When I saw Jurassic Park as a 7-year-old boy, it captured my imagination and, from that time on, I became obsessed with dinosaurs. Well, until I watched The Lion King a couple of years later, when my obsession switched to African animals. And after that, Toy Story sparked a renewed interest in my action toys. You get the idea.

Puppets Win Hearts at HIFA

When we heard that all the 5 HIFA shows for ‘A Tree to Sing To’ were sold out before the festival even kicked off, we didn’t understand why. Until we watched “A Tree To Sing To” yesterday at the ZB Bank Reps Theatre Upstairs.

Paddington Charms at Africa Premiere

MOVIE  REVIEW | I had the ‘Great’ delight of attending the African premiere of Paddington at the plush Sam Levy’s Village Ster Kinekor cinemas on Thursday last week. The British Embassy in Harare decided to get in on the talking-brown-bear act by associating themselves with this most British product in the hopes of broadening  positive outlook on the United Kingdom and especially the city of London, where most of the action in the story takes place.

Movie Review: The Hobbit Comes to Town

Greetings, movie lovers! I love going to the cinema and savouring the whole movie-going experience – from obtaining your ticket and buying movie-going accoutrements such as popcorn, a soft drink and maybe a “candy bar” (essential ingredients to such a recreation, in my opinion) to finding yourself in the aisles, making your way to the seat of your choice, sitting down and allowing yourself to escape from reality.
