“I am really excited to be featuring in my first production on the big stage,” said an elated Bled.

“The experience so far has been amazing and I believe I naturally fit in because of my nature as artist. There is not much of a difference between my musical performances and this whole acting scenario as I will be faced with the same task, to deliver to the audience,” he added.

He also shared that he is one of the main actors in the play that speaks against substance abuse.

“I play one of the lead roles in the play, that of a youngster who is into the use of substances and eventually gets affected by them.

“I have seen a lot of youngsters losing their lives due to substance abuse so having to play such a role was an experience and a half,” revealed Chimanga.

The play is slated for Harare International School on August 11 and 12.

Chimanga will also be acting alongside other renowned artists such as vocalist, Prudence Katomeni Mbofana, poet, SoProfound, and choreographer, Blessing Fire amongst many others.

Brains behind the project, Jacqueline Rugayo said they chose to focus on the issue of substance abuse because it is a threat to the country’s human capital.

“Drugs and substance abuse is a threat to the country’s human capital. The devastating effects often result in death, disease, and criminal activity including abuse,” said Rugayo. “Its victims cut across race, colour, creed, gender, social status etc. It is a family’s worst nightmare and deserve immediate attention and action.”

She said it took them 52 days to polish up the production and it will be also touring other cities.

“Drug and substance abuse is a silent threat and more work is needed to build awareness in other parts of Harare and other cities. We are already receiving requests from youth from Kwekwe and Mutare,” she added.
