The executive producer of Battle of the Chefs (Joseph Bunga), who is the brains behind this new show, explained what inspired him and his production team, Area 46 Productions, to do another cooking show.

“We love braai as a country and as a family – we have also learnt a lot about doing things differently,” said Bunga. “The idea really took hold on a trip to Mana Pools with 21 of our friends as we went camping. We had some amazing food on that trip. This show will also be about destination marketing.”

On how they are funding the project he said, “This will be funded by Area 46 Productions and we are engaging with potential sponsors who can benefit from the brand placement. We are currently running an advert on Battle of the Chefs looking for sponsors.”

Bunga also revealed that the show format will be similar to that of Battle of The Chefs with four contestants battling out to get a space in the next heat, one will be eliminated, while the other three will progress to the next round.

Speaking on lessons they have learnt over the two seasons of Battle of The Chefs Bunga stated, “Keep it simple and lots of preparation in advance. Remember the focus is not just on the food but also on the drama.”
