Zim Hip Hop’s reigning heavy weight Cal_Vin will officially launch his album today at the ‘Made in Bulawayo Hip Hop Concert’ taking place at Elite 400 in Bulawayo. The Planet Vin LP is the rapper’s sixth studio album.
“On August 13, there are two things happening in one day and in one building, ‘Made in Bulawayo’ and my album launch. I have got 5 albums namely ‘Perfect Balance’, ‘Dat Luveve Boy EP’, ‘Askies EP’, ‘Year Of The Vin’, ‘Santa Vin EP’ and set to release my sixth today – ‘The Planet Vin LP’, Cal_Vin said.
The award-winning rapper says launching his album at the ‘Made in Bulawayo Hip Hop Concert’ is deliberate. He intends to complement some of the event’s objectives such as inspiring Hip Hop lovers and taking the Bulawayo Hip Hop scene to the next level.
‘The Planet Vin’ LP is a 16 track top-notch album which features notable artists like Takura, GTI, Jungle Bwoi, Begotten Sun, Asaph, Lillian, Percy, Jonah, and Mawiza..
Made In Bulawayo is about Hip Hop, it’s a concert for Hip Hop lovers. The organisers say Hip Hop is still neglected in Zimbabwe which is why they decided to take it upon themselves to put together something that is of an international standard and grow a culture of promoting the genre.
“It’s about giving artists an opportunity to express themselves. We decided to do a movement that will attract a Hip Hop audience and enable us to grow our own fan base. The aim is to grow the culture of Hip Hop, give the artists undivided attention, and to make money”, the organisers said.
What makes this concert unique is the decision to avoid using the clubs and instead opting for a friendlier and less restrictive venue where anybody to attend. The amount of money invested in the sound will give the audience an international feel.
Cal_Vin pleaded with music lovers within and around koBulawayo to come through and witness his exclusive album launch and rub shoulders with the finest local artists who will perform at the concert. He promises to give revellers good positive Hip Hop energy and to make history by selling out the event.
Also known as Dat Luveve Boy, the rapper-cum-producer has done collaborations with well-known artists in Southern Africa like South Africa rapper Cassper Nyovest. Cal_Vin features Cassper in the remix of his hit single ‘Zikhuphani’.
Cal_Vin won three awards at the 2015 Zim Hip Hop Awards namely, Album of the Year for ‘Year of the Vin’, Best Male Artist, and Song of the Year for ‘Zikhuphani’. The Hip Hop sensation also won Best Rap Album at the Zimbabwe Music Awards earlier this year.
