Since inception, the Harare International Carnival has been received by many with mixed feelings – the majority of sceptics seeing no value in hosting this event.

But amongst the many sticking points, the bone of contention between organisers of the carnival, which is the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) and some citizens has been the bringing in of Samba girls from Brazil.

Many have viewed these ladies who are known for walking the streets, literally naked as people that are damaging the social fiber of Zimbabwe.

However, besides this call from the masses, the ladies seem to be a favourite of many that attend the event and their coming in is not going to stop anytime soon.

It appears that as the cries to stop them from coming get louder, the ZTA team actually gets more ideas to make the ‘naked women’ the centre of attraction at the carnival.

To prove that the ZTA is not moved by the calls to stop the ladies from participating in the carnival, this year, the Brazilian Samba girls will not be the only ones walking the streets of Harare in a semi-naked state, they will be joined by the ladies from Cuba.

ZTA chief executive officer, Karikoga Kaseke said that this year’s edition of the carnival will be spiced up by the ‘lethal’ Cuban ladies.

“If you thought the Brazilians were dangerous then you haven’t seen anything yet. This year we are bringing in the ladies from Cuba and even the Brazilians fear them,” he said.

To add more spice to the event, the ZTA and its partners have decided to host the SAMBA Night slated for September 8 at the Harare International Conference Centre powered by South African duo of, Babes Wodumo, Zodwa Wabantu and Zimbabwe’s own Bev and Zoey.
