It is the duty of those who are alive now to safeguard and preserve both the present and the past so that the future will have something to reflect and remember us by.

It is for this reason the Italian Embassy in Harare and the Friends of the Gallery will be hosting a Masked Ball under the theme, “Your Nest is My Nest” on October 1, 2016 at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe.

“Art is a national treasure that needs the public’s help in order to be preserved for its intrinsic value and for the enjoyment of future generations. As such, the Bird theme presents an object of identity that is also the country’s National Emblem; the Fish Eagle, a most worthy image to celebrate for its personification of national pride by an institution that works towards the preservation of national heritage,” said National Gallery of Zimbabwe Information and Public Relations Officer, Zvikomborero Mandangu.

The event is aimed at raising funds for the maintenance of the National Gallery’s permanent collection in particular, the bird’s habitat collection. As such, the organizers have decided to embrace the theme with a Venetian-styled masked ball where guest will come veiled as their favorite bird.

A lot of activities are lined up for the evening from Italian food to wine and music. An auction of artworks from talented Zimbabwean artists will also take place. Tickets are already on sale. You can buy them from at National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Pemcol Bakery Sam Levy’s Village and Little Eataly Restaurant at Doon Estate in Msasa
