Ok, so what does the story of a 21 year old intern performing Presidential oral missions in the Oval Office have to do with a party in Harare 11 years later? Well, last year when that anniversary fell, some friends of mine from a European country I shall not name decided they would have a Monica Lewinsky party to celebrate. “A Monica Lewinsky party?” I asked. “Yes!” came the thrilled response. “A Monica Lewinsky party?” I asked again. It just didn’t make sense. Why on earth would anyone throw a “Monica Lewinsky” party, but I was totally missing the point. I realised later on that the party didn’t really have to be a Monica Lewinsky party. It could have been a Laura Bush or Thomas Mapfumo or political party for all the party goers cared. The idea was simply to have an excuse to party- to come together with friends and unwind, to have fun and get drunk. So when I heard about this “Facebook party” earlier on this week I didn’t gape or open my eyes in astonishment. I was a wiser man than before and so I just smiled and said: When? Where? Cool. If you are in the mix of things you should probably do the same. Click here for more details Editor Till I Find One |
