Zimbabwean Big Brother All Stars housemate, Munyaradzi Chidzonga has just survived eviction from the house for the fifth time in a row, breaking his own record of four eviction survivals, set last week. Munya was up against Sheila, who joins the other evictees in the barn. Looks like his prayers are working.

Kirby Chipembere, winner of Harare’s Got Talent 2 has his eyes on Idols South Africa. H-Metro reports that Chipembere is planning to attend the upcoming Idols South Africa auditions. He won Harare’s Got Talent, held on July 31 at REPS Theatre, beating a strong line up of singers, dancers and comedians.

Mexican Model, Jimena Navarreyte (22), was crowned Miss Universe 2010 on Monday (August 23), at the Mandalay Bay Events Centre in Las Vegas, USA. The First runner up was Miss Jamaica, Yendi Phillipps and Miss Australia, Jesinta Campbell was second runner up, while Miss Ukraine, Anna Poslavska came in fourth.

Daniel Chingoma, musician and Taisek Engineering Director, popularly known for his helicopter project (Zimcopter) will face his court judegment on August 27. Chigoma is accused of swindling Never Bernard Chivaviro of Masvingo of ZW$2 million, after he (Chingoma) drilled “holes instead of boreholes” as he had been contracted to do. Perhaps they should confiscate his passport before he copters away.

Auditioned actors for Tinashe Jonas' forthcoming feature film Ma-one, have accused him for ripping them off. The actors claim Jonas asked 112 “successful candidates” to pay US$10 as registration for grooming and artist management fees. Jonas admitted the claims, but said that the money was indeed a registration fee for training and grooming.

Progress Chipfumo is expected to release a new ‘four day produced album’ at the beginning of September. The album adds to a growing list of other albums that Chipfumo claims he produced in four days. He says he writes and comes up with vocals in just four days. Rehearsing is "not part of his style" as a musician.

Shaina hit maker Alexio Kawara and wife Bertha have been blessed with a baby boy. The newborn took his first breath on August 6 at 0720 hrs. Alexio, who was stuck in a traffic Jam at the time of his son’s birth, arrived 30 minutes after the delivery. They have named him Wadiwa.

Zimbabwean Chimurenga musician Thomas Mukanya Mapfumo is expected in Zimbabwe before the end of the year. Mapfumo, who is based in the USA, flew to South Africa on August 13 to meet his international organisers for a show to be held in that country. The 63 year old musician has been in a self-imposed exile from Zimbabwe since 2004.

ZESA subsidiary, Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), has advised Harare residents of a planned shut down of the Kambuzuma 132/33/11 kV substation on Thursday August 19 from 0800hrs up to 1800hrs to carry out urgent critical maintenance. Affected areas include part of Kambuzuma, Mufakose, Warren Hills, Marimba Park, part of Crowborough, Glenview, Tynwald and other surrounding areas.

Sandra Ndebele failed to turn up for a performance at Ringo Madlingozi’s album launch show held in Bulawayo on July 31. Tongai Moyo, who was also part of the line up for the evening, had to cover up for her after it seemed as if the disappointed crowd would get out of hand. Moyo performed before and after Ringo’s well received appearance. It is not clear why the dance princess, famous for her raunchy moves and revealing outfits, did not pitch up.

Sarah Mpofu, commonly known as Tashi from her role in TV soap Amakorokoza, and her fiancé Nkosilathi Sibanda tied the knot in a two day ceremony starting on July 31 spilling into August 1. It was a flamboyant wedding held at Lalani Lodge in Matsheumhlophe, Bulawayo. Mpofu, who made TV fame in Amakorokoza is also a businesswoman and hubby Sibanda is an air craft engineer and a businessman in his own right. The dates of the wedding also happen to be their birthdays- Sarah’s and Nkosi’s respectively. And there the romance begins...

The Edinburgh Fringe in the UK has become the world’s biggest artistic festival and is probably the oldest as well. Started in 1947 as a cultural antidote it has grown every year attracting acts from all over the world to hit a record of 2 453 shows from 50 countries in about 259 venues across the country this year. The festival will run until August 30 and features Zimbabwe's Zambezi Express.

The two member group which was originally made up of three people, Project Fame, has released two singles Imhosva Here and Mabvazuva. When they released their first album in 2001 was originally made up of Mauridi, Lufa and Mercy, Maurudi is now based in Malawi.

The Zimbabwe German Society (ZGS), on the sidelines of the Zimbabwe International Book Fair (ZIBF), is today (July 29, 2010) hosting a meeting for writers at its offices in Milton Park, Harare. The meeting is meant to bring heads together to breathe new life into Zimbabwe's book industry. According to a statement from ZGS, "ZIBF cannot exist without writers and as such has seen a need to bring writers together and provide an opportunity to dialogue, network, get an update and chart a new way forward."

Prominent Zimbabwean Economist, Professor Anthony Hawkins, has said that he has no idea how much arts and cultural industries contribute to the economy. “Nobody knows,” he said during a presentation on the state of the Zimbabwean economy held at the Meikles Hotel last night (July 26). The event, which drew over three hundred professionals and business people, was organised by the British Council’s Management Express programme.
