We often use the three letters LOL in online chats, texts and on Social Media platforms to indicate that we find something funny. Trouble is, few of us ever really laugh out loud- at anything.

I remember when I was a teenager, walking into the kitchen at about midnight this one time and there was my youngest brother stealing something from the fridge.

He froze as I walked in and the sheer look of relief on his face when he saw that it was just me and not either of our parents got me. I burst out laughing. He followed suit.

As we laughed we tried to stifle it so that we would not wake our parents up and that only made it funnier. We both fell to the floor and each time one of us stopped, the sight of the other one rolling on the floor in mirth kick-started another session of laughs.

We laughed till it was so painful I thought I was dying. I wanted to stop but just could not. Then finally, when we were too weak to laugh anymore, we stumbled to bed.

I will never forget that night. I have never laughed as hard as that ever. I want to.

This weekend I may get the chance to do just that when Simuka Comedy celebrates its first anniversary with its biggest comic line up ever. I have attended some of their events and seen the magic of laughter at work as serious looking audience members cracked up helplessly.

I want you to have a shot at laughing hard too. So come. If you want a ticket, contact me and I may just avail a few to the first few couples who get in touch.

Let’s LOL for real this time.

It will hit you. It will heal you. And it may just hurt in a good way. See you there.
