Pamberi Trust’s Gender project FLAME (Female Literary Arts & Music Enterprise) will next week hold a series of events to mark and celebrate International Women’s Day (week!). These include a discussion on Zimbabwean marriages, a special Sistaz Open Mic event and a concert featuring Afro Jazz divas Prudence Katomene-Mbofana and Rute Mbangwa and Idols Africa finalist Adiona Maboreke, among others.

How do you teach a woman, brought up with years of being told that her vagina and sexuality are things not to be talked about and definitely not to be proud of - to embrace that part of her body, that sexual nature and celebrate them? A group of young Zimbabwean women is on a crusade to do just that. They call themselves the Vagina Warriors.

Praise Nyandimu, the 2008 CBZ A Academy winner will be one of the highlights of this year’s International Women’s Day commemoration, sponsored by the International Cultural Centres and to be held once again at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. The Bulawayo based songstress arrived in the capital this week and told The Zimbo Jam that she was raring to give the performance of her life.
