Yasus Afari arms outstretched, HIFA 2010So marasta hate the barber man and the butcher man? Interesting. I attended Yasus Afari back to back with Transit Crew on the 1st of May at HIFA 2010. Somebody please teach me Rastafarian language. I struggled to get what Yasus Afari was saying either in his songs or when introducing the next track like “Big tings wag waan”. When I strained my ears and concentrated hard, I would pick up one or two things, like shooting the butcher and the barber...

Salif Keita performs at HIFA 2010In Shona slang, kete means cool, good, great. We would therefore be aptly stating facts if we said HIFA ended kete kete with Salif Keita’s main stage show. Actually, that’s a lie. The last show of HIFA 2010 was Winky D’s midnight reggae fest on the Coca Cola Green. Both shows were jamming highs that will go down as some of HIFA’s best gigs ever.

Yours Abundantly from ZimbabweIt’s not often that you see people crying after an entertainment event and theatre is entertainment right? It was a different scenario at the Standard Theatre at the Harare International Festival of the Arts yesterday. The venue was filled to the brim as has become quite normal, and at the end of the show many in the audience cried. Such was the emotional atmosphere that engulfed the auditorium during the play, Yours abundantly, from Zimbabwe.
