Over 56 000 tickets were sold at HIFA 2009 the festival organisers have revealed to The Zimbo Jam. In a year which festival Founder and Artistic Director, Manuel Bagorro, has described as the toughest one yet, the festival still managed to draw big stars and huge audiences. There were a total of 182 performances during the six day festival, of which 72 were international. To hold it all together around 400 school leavers and 61 street youth were given temporary employment in the run up to and during the arts showcase.
