When Carl Joshua Ncube set out to raise awareness about the seriousness of the piracy issue in Zimbabwe by living on First Street for a week his intentions were noble, but there were many who didn’t seem to quite get it, including the police who last minute told him that he could only protest from 5AM to 6PM and then leave the street.

It’s called the festival in the mountains and every year it leads to a trek of artists and music lovers up to the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe. It’s called the Chimanimani Arts Festival and the 2010 edition, which takes place from May 21st-23rd, will run under the theme Youth and Culture in Harmony.

This month the National Gallery of Zimbabwe remembers one of Zimbabwe’s most successful female stone sculptors ever, Colleen Madamombe, who passed away on May 31st 2009. She was a short woman of energy and girth who at her peak could out-carve any man in a traditionally male domain and whose sculptures explored and celebrated the fuller female figure.

Much has been said about the technical glitches that put dents into what would have been an otherwise great production- the 9th NAMA Awards held at the 7 Arts Theatre on Saturday (20th Feb 2010). The Zimbo Jam spoke to the event producer, Carl Joshua Ncube, who made a call for more corporate support and explained how his team put this year's ceremony together using a shoestring budget.
