Hazvinei SakarombeIt was a red carpet entrance as Zimbabwe's arts stars turned up dressed to the nines for the 9th NAMA Awards held at the 7 Arts Theatre in Harare last night. Power FM DJ, Hazvinei Sakarombe, ballet dancer Natalie Bradbury, singer Josphat Somanje and sculptor Dominic Benhura were among the big winners for the evening, making several trips to the stage as they won awards in two categories each.

Hazvinei SakarombeWhen the voting for the NAMA 2010 People's Choice Awards closed at 12pm on Tuesday (February 16th) there were a few surprises in store in the Best Overall Artist category. Firstly there is only one musician nominated. Secondly there is a DJ on the list, Hazvinei 'DJ Chilli' Sakarombe, and thirdly talented but hitherto little known artists Natalie Bradbury and Wallen Mapondera have also been nominated.

NAMA trophyAt a recent press conference the chairman of the adjudication board for NAMA, Mr Felix Moyo, explained how the nomination process works. He said that in the past there have been complaints from people who have argued that obscure artists were nominated while their prominent counterparts received no recognition.
