Go Hazvi!
Mai Nhingi   |2010-02-07 12:30:12
I see Petina Gappah is on this list. Isn't this the same writer of whom you
said she was not known in Zimbabwe a month ago? So who nominated her if she is
not known?
Salome  - Known but not known   |2010-02-09 06:19:29
Is it not possible Mai Nhingi that as Shimmer Chinodya and Mungoshi are known in
Zimbabwe by the ordinary Zimbabwean on the street, Petina is not known? Is it
not possible that as a result of the effort to get important people for and in
Zimbabwe known an article can be written to provoke interest?. Is it not
possible that the nomination was as a result of bigger recognition from the
Guardian Prize? It does take us long to recognise the great among us and not it
is not necessarily intended demean someone.
Mai Nhingi   |2010-02-09 07:05:16
Salome, the Guardian Prize was in December. NAMA nominations closed in November,
so I do not see the link. And is it not possible that the article in question
was just a mean-spirited attempt by its writers to take out some of the joy of
Petina winning the award along the lines of ehe angahwina zvake but isusu
hatimuzivi? Zimbabweans are excellent at pulling each other down.
Salome  - possible   |2010-02-10 16:59:38
It is possible that someone can be mean spirited but it is also possible that
someone actually asked people around if they know about Petina and recognise
her. We live in a country that has been accused of not having a reading culture
and we recently had a big discussion about the need for Zim readers for Zim
books which was fascinating. As an avid reader I saw the article as coming more
from this knowledge and I think Petina could use the knowledge from the article
as useful information and not feel attacked. I enjoyed reading her book and feel
that she deserves all the accolades she is getting but I also get the more
broader concerns with reading and access to books in Zimbabwe.

the nominees are biased especiaslly on TV and Film actresses!!! Where are those
two ladies from Legacies Maka and Anna? Those deserve to be awarded coz they
know what they are doing and very good at it! NAMA give credit where it belongs
please! And please publisise the numbers that we can use to vote for our
People's choice!
miss   |2010-02-08 04:34:56
i agree with sheila, the two ladies should have been among the nominees! Maka
kunyanya!!! Legacies should aslo be given an award even if other soaps didnt
send their work!!
latwell  - mr   |2010-02-15 05:14:12
why were there no nominees for outstanding screen production(drama) and
outstanding screen production(soap).Does it mean that there were no achievements
in those categories?
latwell  - mr   |2010-02-15 06:22:03
the problem with NAMA has always been that they want to plaigarism what has been
previously done.as a result they have failed to make correct nominees thus
raising contentious controversy
