A number of poets will perform on the day under the theme Africa fit for Children as well. “This is a special day for African young people and has not been given the significance it requires by artists in the past years,” averred Michael Mabwe the ZPHR Coordinator, “We have thus lost a perfect opportunity for young people to make noise about issues of their concern to the authorities that be. In the rare cases that it is recognized, the Day of the African Child is what is remembered rather as opposed to the children themselves.” Through an initiative branded the Memeza Street Festival, which it is hoped will become an annual event, the poets will partner with other artists to provide an entertainment-packed day. These include Alexio Kawara and his Shades of Black, Hope Masike and Kakuwe, John Pfumojena and the Munandi Band, Magesh and Madiz among others. The programme starts at 1000Hrs. -Tomson Phiri Share this page... |
