The much-anticipated Toya Delazy concert did not live up to expectations. All the drama began when problems arose with the initial venue, Borrowadale Racecourse. The result was the that the show was moved to HICC last minute. This unfortunate incident cascaded into a series of other challenges.
Some major partners pulled out after the change of venue. Heineken, for example, was not happy with the conditions of the new venue. This consequently resulted in Artists like Simba Tagz being taken out of the line up because his performance was sponsored by Heineken.
The concert also had a line up meant for the “Borrowdale side” of market and there was not enough time to tell people about the change of venue.
Resultantly, less than 500 people showed up, making this one of the most poorly attended shows featuring an international artist that e have seen in recent times .
Performance-wise, Toya Delazy came on stage oozing rock and roll flair. She performed some of her energetic songs including her breakout tune ‘Pump It On.’ The small crowd screamed, jumped and sang along in awe.
She soon slowed things down. This might have been to avoid worsening an already strained voice that sounded slightly hoarse, thanks to the previous stops of her tour.
Hard core fans stood up and danced along. Some were thrilled to get free t-shirts that were thrown into the crowd to spice things up.
The South African ended with another of her chosen energetic tunes. Two fans even joined her on stage and showed off some impressive break-dancing skills involving handstands, flips, splits and much more.
The show also saw some great performances from hip-hop rising star, Sharky, also known as Soko Matemai who was hand picked by Toya Delazy to curtain raise for her after he entered and won a competition that ran on social media.
Sylent Nqo also showed off why he is one of the best in the industry. He literally sang with his guitar leaving many amazed and wanting more.
Ammara Brown, as usual, rocked the stage and performed some of her popular songs, including Kure Kure, Uwami and current hit, Mukoko.
