Zimbabwe’s leading rhumba outfit, Diamond Music is planning to blow the roof off the Jazz 24/7 when it stages its gig on Friday June 23.
Rhumba is one of the genres struggling to find a formidable space on the local showbiz scene that is heavily dominated by dancehall and contemporary music.

However, this reality has not caused those who play other types of music such as rhumba to lose heart, as the majority of these miniature genres are producing artists with amazing depth in their craft and can challenge on the global stage.

Zimbo Jam spoke to one of Diamond Musica’s founding member and lead vocalists, Pitshou Lumiere who said the Friday gig is one not to miss for all die hard rhumba fans.

“The Friday show will be full of fire from start to end,” said Pitshou Lumiere.

“Jazz 24/7 is going to be the place to be because we have polished our new dance, ‘Katete katetetesoo’ and am positive our fans will enjoy the new routine.”

He also expressed gratitude to fans for supporting them as their new single, ‘Diamond Fire’ is doing well on local radio stations, especially on Power FM where it is on position three on the Top 10.

“As we all know rhumba music is for mature people and we are really happy with the support we have been getting from fans.

“We are in studio now, working on a new single and we will be dropping at the end of August, this comes after the release of our latest single at the Ambassador Hotel in April,” he added.

Speaking on the challenges they face he said, “The major challenge we are facing is lack of sponsorship, because for a group or a band to be sustainable it needs support from sponsors.”
