In a bid to keep viewers glued to DStv this summer, in the midst of stiff competition from various pay-tv platforms that are popping up, M-Net has turned to cult and classic movies for an answer.

These movies will feature on a new pop-up channel to be initiated on DStv, focusing on 100 movies that feature on most peoples’ must-see lists.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe,  said the new pop-up channel called M-Net Movies Bucket List would launch on Monday October 30.

“M-Net Movies Bucket List  will focus on a selection of fine films and all-time favourites, showcased exclusively to DStv Premium subscribers on channel 109, and the line-up is both exciting and varied,” she said.

The first of the 100 movies will be screened at 6pm on Monday October 30 and the countdown from 100 to number one will continue to Saturday December 2, when the final screening takes place at 8.30pm.

Depending on the duration and age restrictions of the films, the daily countdown runs on weekdays from 6pm and on weekends at 4pm.

Continued Dziva, “The M-Net Movies Bucket List has been compiled by a team of film experts and fanatics, and their criteria for selection dictated that a movie had to be entrenched in popular culture, define an era, shift mediums, uproot the status quo, delight a variety of audiences, impress critics worldwide and ignite a love for movies.

“The previous themed pop-up channels, such as Star Wars, Harry Potter, Fast & Furious and James Bond channels, were huge hits and M-Net has promised to keep creating unique experiences for M-Net Movies audiences. With the M-Net Movie Bucket List the pop-up concept goes to the next level, as viewers been never before been able to see so many magnificent movies in one place over such a short space of time. We know they will enjoy this hot 100.”

M-Net Movies will share the titles of the movies numbered from 100 to 11 on its programming schedules, but the Top 10 films on the list will be a top secret.

“Viewers will have to tune in to channel 109 on the day the top 10 films air to find out their identity.

“Keeping hush about these titles adds to the excitement of this movie compilation. We all have our own bucket lists based on our own tastes and we believe it will be great fun for movie fans to compare notes and see whether their favourites have made it onto the pop-up channel, especially the top 10.

“M-Net Movies will also add excitement with M-Net Movies bucket list bonus features as well as a fabulous viewers competition.

“To compete in this competition, viewers should create their own the Top 10 movie list at mnet.tv/bucketlist.

“The competition closes on November 30, just before  the Top 10 hits the screen,” she revealed.
