Zimbabwean actress, Thandie Newton, will be honoured for her achievements in the film industry this April at a fund raising awards ceremony hosted by Ndoro Children's Charities. She will be one of a number of Zimbabweans who will be celebrated at the event which will be headlined by Oliver Mtukudzi and hosted by another most-notable Zimbabwean, the fiery indie-soul diva Shingai Shoniwa.

Thandie NewtonShoniwa fronts the afro punk rock band – The Noisettes, a group which has been making some serious headway on the UK music scene. Their single Don’t Upset The Rhythm dominated the UK charts last summer.

Left: Trailblazer,
Thandie Newton.

Born 6th November 1972, Thandiwe Ajdewa Newton is a Hollywood goddess in her own right. She has starred most recently in the blockbuster movie 2012, which raked in over US$225 million in the first FIVE days of its release. She has also starred in iconic movies such as Crash, W, Beloved and The Chronicles of Rid[Bad Word].

Her list of awards and nominations is impressive and she continuess to blaze a trail of success in a cut throat film industry.

Other Zimbabweans who will be honoured at the event are legendary cricket player Andy Flower, business mogul James Makawa and international music sensation Oliver Mtukudzi.

The event will take place at the exclusive Westbury Mayfair hotel in Mayfair, London on April 1st, 2010. Legendary musician Oliver Mtukudzi, besides being present to receive his award, is confirmed to perform at the event.

The Pearl Ball aims to raise funds for the construction of Ndoro Children’s Charities’ flagship project, the Zororo Leadership Academy, an orphanage home, school and clinic planned for construction from March 2010.

The stylish evening will include a mix of fundraising and live performances from Oliver Mtukudzi, Shingai Shoniwa and Atlantic Records artist Natty to name a few.

Trasnparency is misunderstood. If I decide to have an awards ceremony and I can
choose who I want to honour. Is that not so?
moi   |2010-02-26 17:30:07
well i do get the whole honouring thing but i ges i would like to honour those
who acknowledge it. Is thandie newton actually in touch with her zimbabwean
roots???????
