Netherlands Filmmaker in Zimbabwe for Script Workshop Print E-mail

Charles LiburdNetherlands based filmmaker, Charles Liburd, is currently in Zimbabwe to hold a script development workshop. The workshop was made possible through a collaboration between Women Filmmakers of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe College of Music and is aimed at upcoming script writers.

The workshop, which began yesterday (1 June 2009), will see each participant working on and developing their own script with the help of the experienced script doctor, Liburd. The workshop ends on June 12th.

According to Women Filmmakers of Zimbabwe, the aim of the workshop is to develop and sharpen participants’ scriptwriting skills through skills transfer. Emphasis is on the craft of script writing and good storytelling which will result in the production of stories of cinematic excellence. Such skills impartation will also lead to the widening of the pool of skilled filmmakers in Zimbabwe.

Various aspiring filmmakers are attending this workshop with the hope of seeing their careers blossom to maturity. Other scripts being developed include Tsitsi Dangarembga’s Kare Kare Zvako- Nyami Nyami, which will be shot in September this year.

Charles Liburd is the founder and owner of film production company, CLfilms. He is somewhat of an international citizen, having been born in Guyana, Educated in England, film-trained in the Netherlands and lived in a number of countries including Uganda, Kenya, Barbados, USA, Italy and now in the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam.
