Munyaradzi ChidzongaMunya has done it. The thing that men have for ages been accused of doing. On international satellite TV, for whatever reason, he has made a woman believe he had feelings for her, slept with her, then told her that he actually had no feelings for her at all AND has a sweetheart back home- by the name of Thembi.

All men are what? Munya.

But it doesn’t end there. In an act that was worse than Brutus’ betrayal of Caesar, Munya then went on, using his power as head current of the house, to replace Ricco with her for elimination from the Big Brother Africa house. The slammer was when Tawana DID get the most votes for eviction and left the house on Sunday (16 Nov).

For a lot of people, that Munya betrayed Tawana is not even a point of discussion. The discussion begins and ends with the fact that he actually slept with her on TV, watched by hundreds of thousands of people. One Hararian said that it was so unexpected for "someone like Munya" to do what he did. Another said it was totally immoral "the things that happen on these shows."

Remember Richard in last year’s Big Brother show? He pulled a similar trick on Tatiana- and then told her that he had a WIFE. Richard went on to win the show and apparently his wife didn’t mind that he had been intimate with another, cause when the show ended she was there screaming joy, hugging and kissing him.

Tawana LebaniPerhaps it’s the US$100,000 that he had won that made her overlook that small, tiny, incy wincy little technicality. Perhaps.

Evicted. Tawana has asked Africa to give her a break.

And Munya? Well his mother reckons that Tawana took advantage of her “charming son”. In a recent article in The Herald she was quoted as saying: “The lady has been pestering our son for some time now and it was clear she was after something and she finally got it.”

She went on to say that what made her more disturbed was the fact that Tawana was older than her son. Tawana is thirty-one and Munya, almost a decade younger, is twenty-two. In the end though all is forgiven: “...we forgive him for what happened because we all make mistakes in life.”

Munya’s father is less perturbed. “My reaction to this issue is very simple. These are some of the things that can be expected in reality shows. Munya did his best to try yo fend off this girl, but at times the flesh cannot resist such temptations.”

What does Thembi think? We don’t know yet.

In the meantime Botswana’s Tawana Lebani is out in the REAL world and has to face what Munya will face soon- the public. She says that Africa should give her a break. The reality show for her “was all about having fun and being comfortable in her own skin.”

According to the Big Brother website she says that she never wanted Munya for a boyfriend and, although she was bedding both him and Ricco, does not advocate having multiple sexual partners. To her nobody got played as all three housemates benefited from the arrangement. Over and above her fondness for the two young men she makes it known that “the motions” were a mode of relieving stress.

Hazel Warren

Last woman standing. Hazel

It now seems though,  that if you want to win Big Brother- anywhere in the world- being a goody goody is a sure way to get out of the house fast. TV audiences for these things seem to want naughty action and the naughtier you are the higher your ratings. Remember Makosi? She was naughty-girl-par-excellence, if such a thing exists, and that got her to the top TWO in the 2005 Big Brother UK. Despite the fact that she was the runner up, Makosi is the most famous character from that edition of Big Brother and still gets media publicity 3 years after the show.

It also seems that the longer you spend in one of these houses the more you forget yourself, heck the more you forget that there are cameras everywhere watching.

Other Zimbabweans who have taken part in reality shows have gone down similar roads of losing their inhibitions with time.

By the time Big Brother UK 2005 ended, Makosi, mentioned above, had shown the world her bust multiple times, smooched another woman, smooched at least two men and had an intimate romp in the pool with one of the male housemates.

Ricco Venancio

Saved by Munya . Ricco.

Bertha Zakeyo (then 28) was Zimbabwe’s representative in Big Brother Africa last year. She went into the Big Brother Africa house with a Bible. In the first days she read it religiously, then she seemed to forget that it was there. Then she was with the others in the Jacuzzi, then she was getting cozy with Max (For the record Bertha did NOT do any hanky panky with anyone). Bertha was the sixth housemate to be evicted from the 2007 show.

Zimbabwe's first ever reality show participant was Tapuwa Mhere. In 2003, at 26, she took part in the Big Brother reality show. Her biggest controversy was going topless during a game of truth or dare with other housemates. Tapuwa finished in third place.

Munyaradzi (Munya) Chidzonga is Zimbabwe’s representative for the 2008 Big Brother Africa reality show. He, along with Ricardo David Ferreira Venancio (Ricco)(21) from Angola and Hazel Warren (25) from Malawi, are the last housemates in the house.

Juno   |2008-11-18 01:44:58
What people forget is that this is just a game. And, in case you didn't know it
Munya is an acting school graduate. He just knows how to play the game.
Juno   |2008-11-18 01:48:29
And despite what he's done, I'd really like Munya to win.
Nes   |2008-11-18 06:59:37
Why do people watch this stuff. Absolute nonsense.
Lee  - Acting   |2008-11-18 09:13:11
Well, I guess Big Brother is more like acting (as in a movie). Of course, in our
African culture, it's more of taboo to just keep your pants down. As an African,
I wouldn't do that, especially when the world is watching- even one person.

Big
brother is all about $$$$. That's what those housemates think about all the
time, and it's true that they start not to notice the cameras. Hell no. Not
that. Ain't that pornography?
Frank   |2008-11-19 04:40:53
He's a Zimbo so I will support him.
Marange   |2008-11-19 05:50:14
I watched in horror as Munya and Tawana got freaky in broad daylight- the same
Tawana who performed felatio on Zambia's TK on TV.

Yes, Munya and Tawana were
under the covers but the movements and the sounds left little to the
imagination.

Are there no boundaries in this programme? This is pornography
thinly veiled as reality this and reality that.

Can MNET do something about
this. Things like this do eomthing to the moral standards of society.
No Worry   |2008-11-19 11:33:57
Horror yechii. If you don't like it just switch off your TV.
No Worry   |2008-11-19 11:34:34
...cause nobody is forcing you to watch right!!!???
