The National Gallery of Zimbabwe will this year launch a programme to reach out to less privileged children from various homes in and around Harare.

It will be marked by a fun day co-organised by the Gallery and partners on December 9, 2016.

The event is set to become an annual part of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe’s social responsibility calendar and will involve children who would not normally have an opportunity to celebrate during the holidays or to visit the gallery.

Invited children will be drawn from institutions that the Gallery has previously visited in its outreach programmes. These include the Autism Organization, Good Shepherd Children’s Home, Chinyaradzo Children’s Home, S.O.S. Children’s Village and St Catherine.

A total of 80 children are expected to attend.

“The children will be guided by volunteers from the School of Visual Art and Design through a variety of fun activities, including tours of exhibitions in the Gallery, the Culture Box Workshop, storytelling, jumping castles, face painting and music. Then they will be treated to a special lunch,” said the Education Officer at the gallery, Mr Akim Nyakudya.

“The Gallery believes this will be an amazing opportunity for them to enjoy themselves and that there will be so much smiling and laughter,” said Nyakudya.
