Hip hop music is mainly synonymous with discourses of success, protest, gender, race, misogyny and misandry. But ladies and gentlemen, amazingly it has come to my attention that the hip hop community values ecology which is seconded by Royal Records and Team Legacy ZW, which is organising a clean-up campaign to be held in the CBD on July 8.

The two hip hop brands have challenged the status quo by encouraging the adoption of best practices to ensure that the environment is kept clean and anticipate the future generations to reciprocate such commendable behaviour to ensure that Zimbabweans are environmental conscious.

“As the hip hop fraternity we have a responsibility to play in our community and we do not need to wait for someone to do what we are able to do ourselves to ensure that the environment is safe and clean in the same vein encouraging other institutions and communities to do likewise,” said chief executive officer of Royal Records, Clyde Banks Babeh.

In relation to prominent hip hop brands supporting the clean-up campaign, I AM HIP HOP, The Rejects, Dollar Sign Music, One Nation, John Cole Group, Team Big Family and Team VO3 are playing centre stage to ensure that the campaign is a success.

“All artists and fans are invited from 10am till 3pm to clean up first street and the dress code is black. We need to show the nation that hip hop is alive and we are growing bigger and bigger by the day,” remarked Taona Matsvai the reigning ZimHipHop award winning best promoter and Chief Executive Officer of Team Legacy ZW.

The clean up campaign will be followed by an after party at Club Stars (Rainbow Towers) in celebration of Taona Matsvai a.k.a Iampreezo’s birthday whereby Junior Brown, TehN Diamond, GZE, MC Chita and John Cole will make special guest appearances whilst Clyde Banks will launch his new single Maria Musande.
