Officially opening the e-Tech Africa Expo at the Harare International Conference Centre on Thursday March 13, 2014 the Senior Minister of State in the President’s Office, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said, “It is my hope that this forum will enable us to exchange ideas that will enhance the ICT sector as ICT can be used to solve economic problems the country is currently facing.”

Moyo also pledged to give full support to all ICT players which include Twenty Third Century Systems, e-Learning solutions, document support centre, live cast among others.

“The Ministry with the support of the government should ensure that the ICT policy framework is project orientated as ICT takes position in the global make of the country therefore it is necessary to give priority to this sector,” added Moyo.

Also present at the official opening was the Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Webster Shamhu.

“Recognising Africa’s potential and the vast opportunities it has to expand its ICT reach, my ministry through this platform seeks to attract exhibitors and participants from other countries that ICT as a sector can contribute immensely to the national GDP,” said minister Shamhu.

ICT has found its niche in every sphere of Zimbabwe policy.

Mobile penetration has risen to 104.4% translating to approximately 13.6 million subscribers in the country and as a result internet penetration rate has increased to 39.8% from 33.4% as of December 2012.
