Hundreds of Ragga lovers thronged the Harare Gardens on Good Friday (10 April 2009) for an event dubbed King of the Dance Hall and organised by Red Rose Entertainment. The aim of the show was to pit some of Zimbabwe's top ragga and dance hall music artists against each other and have the audience decide who was king.

It's amazing the amount of energy at a ragga concert. You have young people toyi toying for hours on end and screaming out loud each time a tune they recognise is dropped. That was the case at the King of the Dance Hall event. From around lunch time Friday till the next morning, the levels of energy in the place were at almost supernatural highs. "Ragga music is powerful," commented Chucky Ayisha, aka Chucknosis, who was present to record part of the event for his TV programme Heart of the Rhythm. The crowd responded so well to the top artists of the day who included Winky D, Labash and Sniper, that in the end no King was crowned. “We decided that there was no outright king,” said a representative of Red Rose Entertainment.
