Sunday Mail Bride of the Year 2009

Here Comes the Bride. Over 700 people packed the 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale, Harare on the eve of Good Friday for the annual Bride of the Year showcase.

After last year's low key event, this year's show had some highlights worth noting. These included performances by some of Zimbabwe's top artists, Alexio Kawara, Fungisai Zvakavapano Mashavave and Sulumani Chimbetu. The Prisons Band also delivered some memorable renditions of old favourites like Rudo Imoto by Marshall Munhumumwe and Charakupa by Alick Macheso.

The Bride of the Year event honours top brides from the previous year's monthly winners.

The winners this year were:

  • Bride of the Year: Ennety Nduku
  • First Runner Up: Snikiwe Magwali
  • Second Runner Up: Gladys Sakupwanya

The newspaper's readers voted Chipo Chidziwa's cake as the best for the year. Second was Chiedza Bianca Chodewa's cake and third Florence Mubvuta's. For baking the winning cake, Hope Makwara took away the Baker of the Year Award.

Mr Wenyeve, who has done this many times before, won once more the Photographer of the Year award for taking the photo of the winning bride. It may also be worth noting that he also won the 1st runner up prize in this category.

The show was made possible by the support of various sponsors.
