Zimbabwe’s IYASA will on Saturday collaborate with Germany’s, Theater Strahl, in a one-off production dubbed ‘Black and white ain’t no colours’ at Theatre in the Park.

The play sees the two theatre houses explore the meaning of colour.

“Colours are part of people’s life in every culture. Already new-borns react on different colours, later in life people put meanings in colours for different cultural reasons. Because of the increasing influence of digital media, we lose the sense of what is real: are the colours in a photograph I see real or edited? Does the meaning of things change, when the colour changes? How does it come, that colours are?” read a statement from event organisers.

The production further explores the behaviour of teenagers in this so-called global village.

It questions the image Zimbabwean teens have from Germany and vice versa. Is the question of skin colour still vital for this generation? Is colour a myth?

Both IYASA and Theatre Strahl have a lot of experience in working with teenagers.

IYASA has for over 15 years offered theatre training for young people from poor communities and also excelled as producers of theatre for and by young people in Zimbabwe and abroad.

Theater Strahl offers various clubs for young people to stage their own performances under nearly professional conditions.

The focus usually is put on spoken theatre, but contemporary dance gets also more and more important.
