“We had a wonderful time and we learnt many new things and we met a lot of amazing musicians, people of different traditions and cultures and it was fun learning to play songs from different countries,” Kanyerere exclusively told Zimbo Jam.

“People loved our music, even other musicians would walk up to us after performing telling us of how unique our music is and how energetic our performances are. And there is not better price for any musician than to be told something like that. It is very humbling,” added Kanyerere.

Melody Zambuko, country director, Music Cross Roads Zimbabwe, a musical institution that has played a pivotal role in the success of the group also spoke highly of the group.

“They have just returned from a tour of Europe and over the last couple of years I have seen the band mature in management and artistic quality.

“Unlike other young bands that struggle to be together, for this band, their union is not to be questioned.

“They’re in it for the love of music and withdrawal is far from being considered. Their parents and guardians are their number one fans which makes managing them a lot easier,” revealed Zambuko.

Music Crossroads Zimbabwe is also linked to the rise of one of the country’s top musical group, Mokoomba.

During the just ended Jesa tour, the two groups met as they were both performing in Brussels, Belgium.

“Mokoomba is one of our products and we were excited to hear that Jesa met with Mokoomba in Brussels as both bands had shows in the city. Now that is in our own small way putting Zimbabwe on the global map,” added Zambuko.

Jesa won the Imagine Zimbabwe competition in 2015 and proceeded to the Imagine International finals in Croatia in 2016 where they came first.
