The former students of McCephas Mlauzi, a Midlands Christian College teacher (formerly at Regina Mundi High), who died in a traffic accident that also claimed the lives of three students on Saturday July 24, have described him as a selfless hero, a man whom they could trust and a really good teacher. One of them sent us her memories of the man she once called "sir."

The three young Zimbabweans; Cleopatra Ndlovu, Masimba Nyamanhindi and Sydney Chisi, who have played significant roles in Zimbabwean civil society covering a wide range of issues including civic education, youth empowerment, women’s rights, and civic activism will next week travel to the United States of America, along with over 100 other young leaders from around Africa, for the US President’s Forum with Young African Leaders.

On the eve of the World Cup finals, especially amongst Spanish communities and others who are just crazy about football, sounds of jubilation and vuvuzelas were rife in the air across South Africa. Elsewhere- same beautiful country, same beautiful time- it was the sounds of guns as three Somali men were shot down at point blank in what was suspected to be the first post World Cup xenophobia case. Or was it just the fear of xenophobia that could be smelt in the air that made everything pass for what it could be than what it really was?
