The Zimbabwean photojournalist won second prize in the Spot News Singles category of the World Press Photo Contest for images submitted in 2008.

Ambassador George W. HaleyMany Zimbabweans will remember the epic drama Roots that first showed on ZTV in the early 90s. The series revealed the harsh realities of the American slave trade and told the story of the journey of a young man named Kunta Kinte- both in terms of physical travel and coming of age. The series was based on a novel of the same name by a man called Alex Haley. His Brother George W. Haley- who also happens to have been a classmate and contemporary of Martin Luther King, Jr. at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia will be coming to Zimbabwe to give a number of talks.

Kirsty Coventry, Brian Dzingai and Heather Brand[The Herald] Swimming icon Kirsty Coventry was fittingly crowned the Sportsperson of the Year at the 2008 Annual National Sports Awards held at a Harare hotel last night.

Coventry had always been an overwhelming favourite to lift the award after some breathtaking performances that were easily the highlight of Team Zimbabwe’s presence at the Beijing Olympic Games in August.
