Towards the end of last year we published a story about the challenges the Zimbabwe Gymnastics team was having in getting to the Zone VI tournament in Namibia. Their major struggle was in raising enough money to take the team on the tour. In the end they managed not only to raise the money, but also to win an impressive haul of medals…
Boldwill “Bold” Hungwe says that he loves photography and if his recent exploits are anything to go by, it would be safe to say that photography loves him back. The Zimbabwean photojournalist won second prize in the Spot News Singles category of the World Press Photo Contest for images submitted in 2008.
Many Zimbabweans will remember the epic drama Roots that first showed on ZTV in the early 90s. The series revealed the harsh realities of the American slave trade and told the story of the journey of a young man named Kunta Kinte- both in terms of physical travel and coming of age. The series was based on a novel of the same name by a man called Alex Haley. His Brother George W. Haley- who also happens to have been a classmate and contemporary of Martin Luther King, Jr. at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia will be coming to Zimbabwe to give a number of talks.
