There was chaos at the Harare International Airport earlier this afternoon as hundreds of Akon fans waited for their icon to land. When he finally appeared from the terminal- not through the normal exit- just after 1400hrs, there were scenes of hysteria as people screamed his name, reached out to touch his hand and some burst into tears.

It is now just a matter of hours before Hip Hop icon, Akon, lands in Zimbabwe for what is already one of the most widely talked about shows in Zimbabwe’s entertainment history. You can feel the excitement in everyone you talk to; they want to be there when history is made. Even people who have never been to a live concert in their lives are talking of buying tickets. If you think that’s something, wait till Akon lands this afternoon. We’re expecting a show of fanaticism the likes of which we have never seen before…

I can’t stop watching the X-Factor video showing Zimbabwean teenager Gamuchirai Nhengu sing Walking on Sunshine in front of Simon Cowell and his fellow judges. In an interview before she performs she says that she wants to get onto that stage and have everyone leave and think, “the girl with the flower in her hair, she was great. That’s all I want.” But it’s not anything in her hair that has moved me. It’s not even her awesome voice and confidence. It’s the flower in her heart that makes her really stand out.

Zimbabwe's leading Hip Hop artist, Stunner, will this weekend perform live at the Big Brother All Stars eviction show in Johannesburg, South Africa. Stunner was selected out of a number of Zim artists who were shortlisted for the highly sought after slot.
