There was chaos at the Harare International Airport earlier this afternoon as hundreds of Akon fans waited for their icon to land. When he finally appeared from the terminal- not through the normal exit- just after 1400hrs, there were scenes of hysteria as people screamed his name, reached out to touch his hand and some burst into tears.

I can’t stop watching the X-Factor video showing Zimbabwean teenager Gamuchirai Nhengu sing Walking on Sunshine in front of Simon Cowell and his fellow judges. In an interview before she performs she says that she wants to get onto that stage and have everyone leave and think, “the girl with the flower in her hair, she was great. That’s all I want.” But it’s not anything in her hair that has moved me. It’s not even her awesome voice and confidence. It’s the flower in her heart that makes her really stand out.
