General DefaoCongolese rhumba maestro Le General Defao has finally left Zimbabwe after authorities said he had overstayed his visa.

General Defao, real name Lulendo Matumona, boarded a Kenya Airways flight out of Harare on Thursday, the Principal Immigration Officer Evans Siziba said.

"He can still apply for another permit while outside the country if he still wants to come back," the official added.

Earlier this week, Siziba made an appeal for Defao, who arrived in Zimbabwe four weeks ago, to surrender himself to immigration authorities after he failed to leave as scheduled last Thursday.

It emerged the singer, who is based in France, was planning more shows in Beitbridge, Gweru, Masvingo and Harare, forcing authorities to act.

“He has to go, we are looking for him and once we find him, he will have to leave. We've already activated our systems and our guys are looking for him,” Siziba said on Tuesday.
