Harare based dance group Banyana Bafana has received an invitation to perform in New Delhi, India at the 8th International Children’s Festival of the Performing Arts to be held in from 16 to 19 December this year.

Banyana Bafana was formed in 2000 in the City of Kings and Queens- Bulawayo. In 2003 they made it to the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) shortlist for the Best Dance Group Award.

They moved to Harare in the hope of making a living from dancing. It’s been tough going but it seems to be finally coming together for them.

Part of their fund raising efforts have included washing cars in bikinis. They were also recently given US$2,500 by Harare businessman, Ben Mukandi which will go towards financing their trip. They need $20,000 to send the 12-member group, which consists of male and female dancers, on the trip.

Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia are the three other African groups that will take part at the festival.

Banyana Bafana Ba-naked
Jaison Midzi  - Ba-What?   |2009-11-19 10:28:16
Which album did Banyana Bafana record and how many copies of their album was
sold by gramma, rtp or metro studios, let alone country studio. If none -then
whose music are they going to illegally perform in India. Its illegal to perform
another musician's song and its a silent form of piracy. Arrest them-they must
not take short cuts in music.

I salute the efforts from these young people.Charity begins at home.Jaison Midzi
with all due respect you need to get you facts and definitions right.A dance
group has every right to dance to any music published as long as the acknowledge
the composer. They are not doing a live performance but 'dancing' to the
music. They are not a band fellow Zimbabwean and dance groups world wide use
music composed eother by themselves or in some cases other artistes. If you are
so passinate about piracy look around you and see how people are copying our
work and selling it to you for nothing.

It appears that voice of the voiceless you are not any artist and you seem not
to know anything about music. If you are a musician then you are a strugling
musician or just a nonentity to say the least. These guys called banyana
ba---are not better positioned to represent Zimbabwer at an international fora.
they will downgrade the good name that we are building us big musicians. Their
acts suggest nothing about our music rich nation and sending them to raise our
flag is a musical joke of this century. If they are big like you are suggesting
then let them hire Aquatic complex in Chitungwiza and you will see if they will
attract 10 fans for their show even if it will be for free.
