Primary police investigations have indicated that the car crash that killed Sam Mtukudzi and his sound engineer Owen Chimhare in the early hours of Monday morning may have been caused by over speeding. The Tata pick up truck, belonging to Sam Mtukudzi, was being driven by Chimhare.
^ The remains of the truck that Sam and Owen were travelling in when the car crash that killed them occured. National Traffic spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Inspector Tigere Chigome said yesterday that Chimhare lost control of the truck and it rammed into the bridge rails near the Kuwadzana Extension turn-off along Bulawayo Road. "They died on the spot as a result of serious head injuries," he revealed. Meanwhile, it has emerged that police took at least four hours to arrive at the scene of the accident. Sungura musician, Tongai Moyo, who was one of the first people on the scene after he had received a phone call about the accident, said that they waited for hours before the police arrived. It is not clear what time the ambulance services arrived at the scene. According to The Herald this morning, there were also beer bottles found in the vehicle but it has not been ascertained if this was a case of drinking and driving. The police also suspect that fatigue may have caused the accident.
^ The mangled dashboard of Sam's Tata truck tells the story of the impact with which the vehicle hit the bridge railings. Meanwhile Tuku and wife, Daisy arrived in Harare late yesterday morning and were taken straight to the funeral parlour where they viewed their bodies. When The Zimbo Jam visited their Norton home later on in the day, a number of people had gathered to console the family. Ministers Webster Shamu and Saviour Kasukuwere were among those who made the trip to Norton. Throughout the day dozens of people visited the Tuku home to pay their last respects including Suluman Chimbetu, Victor Kunonga, Fred Zindi, Partson Chimbodza, Prince Tendai Mupfurutsa, Douglas Mamvura, Chirikure Chirikure, Tendai Chakanyuka, Bridget Gavanga and many others. - Story: The Zimbo Jam
