When Reggae superstar Sizzla Kalonji came onto the stage, just after 0200hrs on Sunday morning (28 Feb 2010), for his performance at the 21st February Movement gala held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair Grounds pandemonium ensued. Fans were so excited to see him that a human security barrier in front of the stage fell apart under the pressure of the pushing and shoving. Riot policemen took out their batons and started thumping people and Sizzla had to pause his performance to ask them to stop. "Please security, take it easy," he said. "Please stop beating up my fans.” Meanwhile fans had started throwing missiles at the police and Sizzla had to appeal to them for restraint and calm. He told the crowd that he had been brought to Zimbabwe by President Mugabe and asked for the crowd to be well behaved. “Set a good example,” he said “This is the 21st February Movement. Please do not mess it up." Sizzla was in the country for celebrations of President Robert Gabriel Mugabe’s 86th Birthday. He gave a second performance on the evening of 28th February at the HICC in Harare. Share this page... |
