Jibilika dance Contest PosterThe National finals for the 2008 edition of the JIBILIKA Dance Festival will be held on Saturday 22nd November at the magnificent Rainbow Towers’ Harare International Conference Centre (HICC).

This follows the completion of a five month provincial preliminary exercise which started in Mutare on the 10th of May ending in Bulawayo on the 29th of August. However financial constraints resulted in the failure by the organisers to audition three of the ten provinces. .

JIBILIKA 2008 is running under the theme “Dance is Life” bringing people together “in a connectedness that evolves into authentic ethno-contemporary expressions that are the pivot between space and time.”

According to the organisers dance is more than just entertainment but in its different forms reflects on one’s way of life, is a language and a means for survival.

Twenty four (24) dance groups will converge in the capital to battle for the honors of being the best in dancers Zimbabwe in the four category contest- Traditional, Hip Hop, Kwaito, and Rhumba/Sungura.

Last year’s overall winner from Bulawayo and now Harare based, Magesh Tornadoes, will make a special appearance at the event. Emarald Hill School for the Deaf will also give a performance. Celebrated artists such Leonard Mapfumo, Roki, Trevor Dongo, Vabati Vajehovha, Madiz , Yulisis and Kiposo, are lined up to perform at the final.
