World AIDS Day

In support of Leander Kandiero's 24 hour one man marathon broadcast on Power FM and the various events that are happening around the country to commemorate World AIDS Day, we have set up this page as a message board for our readers.

We would like to hear your thoughts on the efforts that are being made to combat the disease, the progress that is being made, the response from the public and any other related issues.

Messages of solidarity for those living with HIV and AIDS are most welcome. Your words could be the wind that lifts someone's kite.

As the ZimboJam we are offering six meal vouchers at the newly opened NJ's Restaurat in Highlands Harare for Leander to give to three couples of his choice who have gone for testing.

On with the fight.

This is a great initiative by Powewr FM and Leander. It will go far in raising
awareness about the disease.
Carmen   |2008-12-01 09:04:13
I agree. Well done Leander!

I would like to commend the work being done by organisations like PSI, New Start
Centre, Safaids, etc in educating people about, preventing and treating
HIV/AIDS.

I know it is sometimes tough and unacknowledged work, but on this day
we pause and say a big THANK YOU.

Education at a very young age needs to continue so that teenagers make informed
decisions.

I know the AIDS message has been said over and over again but until
there is no one dying from AIDS it needs to be repeated and repeated and
repeated.

We need to get more ARVs into the country. We can save many lives, keep
breadwinners healthy, keep children in school by doing this.
Mike   |2008-12-01 09:21:07
Love and emotional support makes a big difference. I have witnessed how it can
change someone's condition significantly.

Drugs are important but we need to
complement them with care and compassion.

In a place where the night is closing in on all hope on the fight my hope will
be the candle burning on.
The little bit you and I do in this fight will bring
together many candles onto one stick and we shall all have victory.
From voices
of solidarity to the hands on work being done we shall have a victory.
Do not
stop fighting, talking or hoping. We are all fighting for a change and a
difference though our efforts everyone infected and affected by HIV will see a
difference in their lives.
DO NOT GIVE UP HOPE AND DO NOT STOP FIGHTING you and
I are the difference this fight needs!

Its so sad that on such aday like this we still have people who cannot afford
ARVs because of poverty and our economic so called 'challenges.' Its so stupid
also that we blame these pseudo challenges on the sanctions. We are in [bad
word] guys dont talk to me about challenges.

Thanks who took to the streets
however I am convienced you are not different from our leaders. That was self
satisfying agenda that you had. If you a pure revolutionary purpose as you call
it then one loot shops, break into cars Cdes?

Mother Teresa once said "There are many in the world dying for a piece of
bread but there are many more dying for a little love"

We could say the
same with the AIDS pandemic. So many need drugs but so many more need love.
moses shuro   |2008-12-02 05:23:09
true that gina !!!
moses shuro   |2008-12-02 05:20:41
One speaker once sad "If not us then who if not now then when " this is
the spirit that Leander has shown .I will to challenge the world to take such
action and initiatives .thank you i was transformed by you broadcast GOD bless
you and you family

Together we can beat this thing. I heard of a research centre in Uganda that's
doing some ground breaking research for a vaccine and I was impressed.

As
Africans we shouldn't wait for the rest of the world. Let's also push where we
can for solutions to our problems.
mugo   |2008-12-02 06:44:42
Yes, let's keep fighting this thing till we beat it.
Tindo   |2008-12-02 13:21:39
I was so touched by Leander's sacrifice. Being a Christian myself, I know how it
feels like to fast especially when you have to talk the whole 24 hours. Leander
opened my eyes wider because though I knew about HIV and AIDS, I was not that
considerate but Leander made me rethink of my attitude towards people living
with HIV/AIDS. I am that kind of a person who used to know that such people
exist, how i didn't know due to ignorance. Now if someone like Leander can
sacrifice 24 hours to dedicate them to such a program, why can't I do the little
I can to help one or two people? I will make a difference.

you have made great strides in the spirit realm.well done ,now just wait and
watch the seed you have planted grow.
the future is bright
you got the power to
cause changes in you
francis madondo  - mean wat yu say   |2008-12-03 07:27:16
guys, aids is there and real. get tested so that yu know yo status. I got
tested, got married and now i am confident in telling my wife that I LOVE HER
AND SHE IS THE ONLY ONE TILL DEATH DO US PART, thanx sister for the programme,
hope pple will change their behaviour
BATSI   |2008-12-18 05:32:13
Yeh,I must say I was really impressed with Leander. One important thing people
should know is that HIV is everywhere, in our homes, churches, workplace,
everywhere so don't be going to church thinking any brother or sister you get
from CHURCH is free from the virus. GET TESTED. HIV & AIDS is everyone's
business as Leander said we are all affected one way or the other so lets show
some love. Peace!!!
Dave   |2008-12-18 08:20:03
True that Batsi. Churches are not immune from this at all.
extra  - EBK   |2009-07-24 07:54:31
i think taht we should help spread the message of hope in our churches. for as
long as some of our church leaders still preach doom we are still a long way
from the hope and love message. let us pray for this pandemic to end
