It was a bag of laughs at the Shoko Festival’s Simuka Comedy corner and if you ask aspiring stand up comedian Alexio Chingodza, he can tell you that indeed there is always a first time to make people laugh.

“It was my first time to be on the stage, I was a bit nervous but I managed to contain it because I am also a master of ceremony so I am used to being on stage”, said Chingodza.

He was not alone, he went head to head with other two comedians who echoed similar sentiments.

Fortunately, for Perry Kaande who is know by his stage name, P Kay the Elder, it was not his first time to be on stage as a stand up comedian.

“It was tough, I had to ad lib since most of the material I had prepared was for a mature audience but then there were school kids in the audience so I had to be mindful of them as well,” stated Kaande.

Kaande who has been a part of Simuka Comedy since 2013 also commended the Shoko Festival organisers for recognising upcoming comedians by giving them a platform to perform.

Prominent comedian, Sharon Chideu also known as ‘Magi’ of the Bustop TV firm, was part of the audience. She was glad to present and took a few tips from her fellow comedians.

“I think its not easy to use English, as I learnt today,” noted Chideu.

“Its tough for the first time and I cannot wait to be up there one of these days for my first debut on stage as a stand up comedian,” she added.
