Things picked up pace on the second day of Zimbabwe Fashion Week, Thursday July 29, with four young designers showcasing their work. A show scheduled for the afternoon was cancelled so that a bigger event, featuring more designers could be held in the evening.
Presenter, model Vimbai Mutinhiri, used her knowledge of the fashion industry to put things into perspective, explaining in between designers, the background to each collection. The models’ hair and make up was by Tanya Taderera from Stay Beautiful. First in line was Yemurai Mupinyuri of the House of Yemurai. Yemurai is an understudy of the famous South African diva of a designer, David Tlale. She has just completed an internship with Tlale, after graduating with distinction from the Johannesburg campus of the London International School of Fashion (LISOF). Yemurai's bold collection got many ooh’s and aah’s from the crowd. Jo’burg based Zimbabwean designer Shelter Matsa was next with her Zvonaka Collection featuring contemporary African cuts and colours. Then there was Briaton Takundwa from Bulawayo. Outfits from his Figure it Out label drew applause from the crowd. The evening ended off with Urban Militia by young designer Ashley Nyagumbo who says his work presented at the Zimbabwe Fashion Week was inspired by Sade the musician. All in all the crowd expressed satisfaction with the show and the clothes presented, with one woman singling out Yemurai's designs as being, "Totally wow." - The Zimbo Jam, iZimPhoto Share this page...
