Some are inspired by nature and others are inspired by their personal experience, but for Ishmael Tsakatsa, his designs were inspired by a book written by a pastor, Reverend Chris Oyakhilome. Now Tsakatsa is off to the prestigious Swahili Fashion Week (SFW).

“The collection came to being by the use of my creative ability to create into existence that which l see from within”, explained the 2014 Zimbabwe designer of the year.

“This is after I read a book by Reverend Chris called, ‘The Power of your Mind’. It talks about how to use one’s mind to walk in divine excellence through the creative power of imagination, thoughts and meditation. The mind is a tool to use in shaping one’s circumstances to their advantage,” he added.

Tsakatsa is set to raise the nation’s flag high in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from December 2 to December 4, 2016 at one of Africa’s biggest fashion shows.

Founded in the year 2008 by Tanzanian couturier, Mustafa Hassanali, Swahili Fashion Week has been dubbed the largest annual fashion event in East and Central Africa that is geared towards being the most sought after and preferred fashion platform in the continent for the international market, promoting the “Made in Africa” concept.

Tsakatsa is up for the challenge and has prepared something special.

“The collection exudes Royal elegance. I used red, champagne, gold & whites for my collection. These colours symbolise vibrancy, opulence, wealth and mental clarity,” he confidently explained.

He has every right to be confident because his previous achievements are testament to the fact that he is indeed talented. Tsakatsa has won the Future Africa Leaders Award 2015 in Lagos Nigeria, Best Entrepreneur Award 2015 at the University of Zimbabwe Vice Chancellor’s Awards and Zimbabwean Designer of the Year Award in 2014 at Zimbabwe Fashion Week.
