Emirates Launches Daily Flights from Zimbabwe to Dubai

Emirates announced on June 26, 2012, that it would be introducing daily flights from Harare, via Lusaka, to Dubai. The Dubai route has proven popular with Zimbabwean entrepreneurs who buy electronic gadgets, clothing, house fittings and other goods from the country to sell in Zimbabwe.

The service has been operating five times a week since its launch on February 1 this year and to date, Emirates has carried over 43,000 passengers on the route.

“This latest boost to Emirates’ African network is testament to the continuous upward growth in demand for our flights to and from the continent,” said Jean Luc Grillet, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations for Africa. “A daily service to Lusaka and Harare will mean greater choice for customers, while an increased cargo capacity of 40 per cent will facilitate more export business opportunities for both countries, forging greater trade links and increasing access to key trading partners in Asia and the Middle East.”

Just this afternoon, Zimbo Jam was at Avondale Flea Market, looking for a certain phone dealer. To our disappointment he was away- in Dubai. We wonder if he flew Emirates...
