Jazz sensation Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana has been quiet for a while, but she is still the singer that most people fell in love with in the early nineties.Zimbo Jam Caught up with the singer, actress and mother of four at MMM studios as she had her rehearsals to find out what she has been up to and what she is working on.
ZJ: You have been silent for sometime, what have has been keeping you busy?
PKM: I been quiet I guess to public performances but I have been doing private shows. Also what has been taking a lot of my time are my two youngest kids. I have been a hands-on mom to these two, unlike the first two were my mom and my mother-in-law were helping out so I was able to do quite a lot as I had a bit of time on my hands.
ZJ: Apart from being a full time mom what else kept you busy?
PKM: I have been teaching as well. A lot of people had approached me for vocal coaching which is something I am good at so I have been imparting that skill, but I’m back because I miss the stage .
ZJ: Now that you are back, whats cooking?
PKM: There is an album that’s halfway done. We’ve just decided with the team that we release a few singles before we actually launch the full album.
ZJ: What can your fans expect from this new album
PKM: Well, a few surprises I think. I’ve always been a musician who loves music in general and I’m not confined to a single genre. So I like to experiment with different genres and put a touch of my style so-to-speak.
ZJ: Tell us about what’s happening on Friday
PKM: Well Friday’s show is really to catch up with the fans to let them know that I am still breathing and preparing them for whats coming in the near future
ZJ: How soon?
PKM: Definitely the first single will be out end of October. Its a signed and sealed deal. Just before Christmas we will be releasing yet another single. And as for the album, we haven’t set a date but early next year I’m sure the album will be on the shelves.
ZJ: Any special words to the fans?
Thank you so much for the support. The nice thing is that even though I had taken the back bench, I still got people out who were still checking up on me, asking about what I’m up to. I promise to not leave my fans for this long without anything to listen to. I will make sure of that
