Zimbabwe’s Selmor Mtukudzi is at it again – using her musical talents for positive social change. Today, as many others in South Africa and across the continent and even the world celebrated Nelson Mandela Day, she joined some of her “Strong Girls” to participate in the 21st International AIDS Conference happening this week in Durban South Africa.

Selmor joins Waje from Nigeria, Arielle T from Gabon, and Judith Sephuma from South Africa for volunteer activities and performances at the conference. Today, these ladies packed food for more than 20,000 orphans – volunteering far more than the 67 minutes that is asked of people on Nelson Mandela Day.

Later in the day, Selmor and her #StrongGirl colleagues met famed South African actress, Charlize Theron, who Selmor says “…gave an amazing speech. She spoke about how the young generation is the one that will help end HIV/AIDS. We need to educate and empower them, and we can reach our goal of ending AIDS by 2030. It is possible!”

Selmor called on the Zimbabwean government to put more resources into the fight against HIV/AIDS, saying “Did you know that 175 people are infected with HIV/AIDS every day in Zimbabwe? Our government needs to invest more in our health sector.”
