Multi-award winning South African rapper, Mthembeni Ndevu, better known by his stage name Emtee will this year be Shoko Festivals headline act. The “Roll Up” hit maker is set to perform on Shoko’s opening night.

Also performing at Shoko Festival will be Soul Jah love. The “Zvinhu” hit maker is set to thrill the Shoko fans. Other local acts to perform will include, ExQ, Simba Tagz, Takura, Calvin with more acts that will be announced soon.

Shoko festival never disappointed in as far as its comedy line up is concerned. This year South African comedian Mpho Popps will be headlining the comedy program on Saturday 30 September 2017. Mpho Popps (real name Mpho Modikoane) is a South African comedian. Popps first got noticed on the SABC1 reality competition So You Think You’re Funny! in 2009 before going on the club circuit in Johannesburg, where he quickly made a name for himself and shared the stage with some of the biggest names in comedy, including Trevor Noah and Marc Lottering.

Other international acts include UK artists Duncan Beiny better known as DJ Yoda. DJ Yoda a hiphop turntablist known for creating an animated musical style. He has won a DMC DJ of the Year award in the Scratch DJ category (2001) and was one of six nominees for best UK hip-hop DJ in the UK Hip-Hop Awards. He has also been nominated by Q magazine as one of the “Ten DJs To See Before You Die.” And as part of the spoken Word Exchange program between Shoko Festival and Olso Afro Arts Festival, from Norway a spoken word artist Taro Cooper and Julian Sommerfeldt.

The 7th edition of Shoko will be taking place at what is now the home of Zimbabwe Museum Science grounds on the 29th and 30th of September  2017. The festival will then move to Chitungwiza Unit L on the 1st of October 2017 for its peace in the hood programme.

This year the theme theme will be YOUtopia because the organisers want the audiences to “find their joy and discover their own personal utopia amidst the amazing vibe that will be Shoko 2017.”
