Controversial and award-winning female Zim Dancehall artist Lady Squanda (born Sandra Muchaneta Gazi) seems to have a penchant for trouble that continues to haunt her. In the latest development that could badly dent her career, she allegedly teamed up with friends, waylaid and indecently assaulted a fellow Chitungwiza-based artist and comedian Abra Skimbo (real name Tatenda Albert Matika) last week.

In an online video that has generated huge public outburst and condemnation, she is seen and heard physically attacking the comedian whilst seated in a car, before ordering him to lick the bottom of her feet.

Skimbo is a self-styled online TV show anchor who regularly posts video skits on developments in the Zim Dancehall scene to his Ziso Regondo TV channel. His recent episode infuriated Squanda after alleging that she stole some underwear and towels from a Kwekwe lodge after a show at the invitation of the hit-making music producer DJ Fydale. Apparently the incident did not go down well with the lodge owners prompting them to request Fydale pay for the missing stuff.

In an interview with Zimbo Jam, Skimbo expressed disappointment with the ‘Dancehall Nurse,’ as she affectionately calls herself. Narrating the traumatic ordeal he said, “I received a call from one guy who requested to do a collaboration on a song with me and he asked to visit me at home on another day. When the guy came to pick me up I later discovered Lady Squanda was also in the car. The driver changed the route and took me to a closed street where more people turned up and the assault and insults ensued until she made me lick her feet, apologise and curse myself.”

Without giving much detail, he disclosed that he has since made a police report. An investigation is said to be underway.

Later on, the assailants went on to release the shocking videos on social media. Shortly after the videos went viral, BodySlam promoter Simbarashe Chakare announced that he was dropping Squanda and replacing her with Skimbo and DaRula (a fello female artist) for a planned September UK tour.

It’s interesting that Lady Squanda’s discography is slowly being overtaken by her string of controversies. In 2013, she had a nasty fallout with her former manager-cum-husband, DJ Stayera. Despite riding the wave of several hit songs, Lady Squanda got embroiled in yet another tiff with now-SA based artist Nashie over ownership of the song ‘Chibhorani,’ which the latter challenged was his.

Fast forward to 2014 when she had a physical fight with fellow artist Lipsy Chitimbe at a Star FM Dancehall Remedy concert. This altercation was said to have been linked to a boyfriend, though they both denied it. The same year she had a public spat with several Zimbabweans resident in the UK who alleged the artist had personalized mobile phones she had been sent with back home after her tour.

As if that was not enough, she went on to fake her death in 2015 as part of an album launch stunt.

Efforts to get through to Squanda were in vain, though sources have it on good record that she is admitting committing the offense though defends her actions as provoked and warranted in order to teach a lesson to the foul-mouthed comedian. This was further confirmed by a scornful Facebook apology post made by Trustee DJsparks who belongs to the artist’s After8 camp saying, ”ZIMDANCEHALL TO THE WRLD KEEP SUPPRTING Ladie Squanda MUSIK ADVCE TO EVERY1 DONT DISS MA JEWS NENYAYA DZAMUNENGE MANGOFUNGA MEGA DZEKUNYEPA KOZ YU NEVA KNW KUT TOTSAMWA KUSVIKA PAPI, WI ARE VERY SRY MR Skimbo Ziso Regondo Matika.”

Loosely translated “Keep on supporting Lady Squanda, however we advise everyone never to disrespect the Jews (her other title) because you never know how much anger and backlash that will attract. We are sorry.”

Speaking from his Bangladesh base, Zimdancehall artist and promoter Abra Simz condemned the attack saying, “It’s very sad to see such acts at this time, especially when we are trying to rebuild our country. I pray the right course of action is taken and justice is done.”

Comedian Carl Joshua Ncube took the opportunity to go on overdrive with both memes and rib cracking jokes in an apparent response to Squanda’s behavior with one Facebook post reading, “hazvina kumbokuFEETa zvawaita SQUANDA! Ita mushe! Vana varikutevera muTSOKA idzodzo!” (Such behaviour doesn’t suit you Lady Squanda, children are following in your footsteps!)

Also no stranger to skirmishes that land him in the spotlight, sometime last year, Abra Skimbo was in the news in an incident that involved Seh Calaz and his recently engaged to girlfriend Moira Knight, who is daughter to the now UK-based former ZBC radio and TV personality Eric Knight. The issue was over suggestions by the satirist in one of his episodes that the Mubhanditi music sensation had abandoned his wife for a new lover. Skimbo went on to receive death threats, allegedly from Calaz and Moira, which they both denied.

Incase you missed it, here is what happened:

1.Skimbo creates a video

2.Squanda gets wind of the video and decides to retaliate

3.Squanda assaults Skimbo

Zimbo Jam will keep you posted on developments to the issue.
