Zim comedy on the rebound!

Three years ago comedy was booming in Zimbabwe but gradually things began to turn south. Regular comedy venues folded, fans began to lose interest as comedians were accused of repeating jokes and the general harsh economic climate that crippled the country made it difficult for people to come out in numbers.

The Rise and Rise of Doc Vikela

2015 was a defining year for comedian Doc Vikela, as the wit headlined various local gigs and shared the stage with hot shots such as Toll A$$ Mo and Ann Kansiime. Vikela also hosted a number of national events and dazzled many at the monthly Simuka Comedy shows.

Comedians Start Year On Fire

The 2014 comedy calendar ended with a hilarious Bang Bang Comedy Game Club show at the Old Mutual Alliance Francaise theatre on December 18 that left revelers gasping for breath as they were chocking from too much laughter as a result of incessant jokes which were being fired by the comics.

Come 2015, the funny people have hit the ground running as they staged yet another superb Simuka Comedy show in a packed Book Cafรฉ on Thursday January 15.

Zimbabwe's biggest comedian, Carl Joshua Ncube was the anchor on the evening and he did a good job of keeping the receptive crowd in high spirits in between acts.

The first comedian on the night was Kadem he did a good job of breaking the ice but it was the energetic Kessia and her so called brother and sister who really got the night started with their crazy act that saw them go on and on about human waste and even composed a song on it to which the crazy audience sang along.

Next up were two new kids on the block, Takudzwa and Bothwell.

Taku did well considering his still a new act but he has to take time to work on his punch lines as some were just dry. As for Bothwell he did very well and with much exposure he could go very far.
