Zimbabwean filmmakers are always working round the clock making movies. However, their greatest challenge is that without a functional distribution model, it’s difficult for people to access their productions.

One of the major problems has been that the few movie houses in the country run by Ster Kinekor do not offer a platform for local filmmaker’s to have their movies showcase at the cinemas.

The only time a filmmaker gets to use the Ster Kinekor premises is on the day they are premiering their movie and this is usually done at a fee.

It also appears that Ster Kinekor is not interested a lot in the filmmakers – this was proven a few years ago when Ster Kinekor gave ambassadorship roles to talkative characters on Facebook and shunned filmmakers.

But, the dynamics are set to change starting this Thursday, March 8, as Theatre in The Park are launching a new initiative dubbed ‘Cinema in The Park’.

“As some might know, we have launched a film screening programme dubbed Cinema in The Park. This has been done to afford local and African filmmakers a platform to showcase their films after a realisation that most traditional cinemas do not offer them such,” reads a statement on the Theatre in the Park Facebook page.

The post also highlights that the first movie to be showcased on the platform will be the NAMA award-winning movie, ‘Kushata Kwemoyo’.

“To kick start the programme we have the NAMA award winning film Kushata Kwemoyo which will start showing on Thursday March 8 through to Saturday for just $5,” further read the statement.
